as a low income person I just started play golf last week (first time) hitting the ball …RUclipsr like you is my coaches … thank you very much for videos step by step
I’ve been playing on a set that was given to me, its an expensive hobby but I agree with you on these youtube golf coaching videos. Also, getting a round a few times a week also helps. Good luck
Love your videos. I am just getting back into golf after 7 years not playing, until my wife passed away and I needed an escape. Watched all your videos and have played 2 games this year and shot 97 and 93. Thank You for all your tutorial videos they have helped me so much.
Hey, it has been a few years since you left this comment. From one stranger to another, how have you been doing? I hope all is well. Keep staying strong brother, remember it's always okay to ask for help.
I hate u!!! 😂 just kidding!! That’s awesome!! I’ve been playing 19 years and I’ve only broke 90 a few times!!! Golf is a lifetime lesson that is never mastered, is what I tell my 14 yr old son that started playing a month ago and he is doing amazing already!! He still has a lot to learn!! 😎💪🇺🇸⛳️🏌️♂️
I am a beginner golfer and prefer your channel over others as you explain things very well step-by-step, how your body should look or what it should be doing; and yes, I agree with others, your editor is doing a magnificent job. Looking forward to this journey with you as guidance.
you're such an incredible teacher, explain what we're trying to accomplish then simply break down how to get there. my golf game has improved so much after watching so many of your videos. thanks rick!
OMG! Just followed you process on irons and the driver. Have been struggling for weeks, not able to figure out what I was doing wrong! You fixed me! Absolutely amazing instructor! THANK YOU!!
I find the key for me in the take away is to think about getting my lead shoulder to point at the ball, then i push my hips towards the target to start the downswing. Been hitting irons like a dream (for me) since I started that. Separate note RS, been hooking drives badly, watched your video on this and now hitting some of the most consistent drives ever. thanks chap!!!
You are a good coach Rick. You keep it simple. That revolving around the sternum trick has improved my ball striking immensely, especially my irons. Awesome dude.
Rick has been a tremendous help in improving my golf game. He explains all types of shots clearly and patiently. I have watch various golf pros and their instructions but I feel I am getting more from Rick each and every time I take his lessons. My game has show improvement since watching Rick and I thank him for that!
This video is going to help people years after it was made just like me I started about a month ago and your videos are so helpful, nothing is long winded and poorly explained you get straight to the point and with perfect examples! Thank you.
Started playing golf in August. So thankful I've found your channel, Rick! Learned so much about improving my game and having a laugh when it's just not my day.
“Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.” Just because Rick isn’t a scratch/competitive golfer like he once was, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have great tips and advice. I love the content and info you provide. I do think that one thing he did leave out is tempo and how important it is to be in control of your body and balance to maintain all the mechanical positions he explains.
He also didnt cover, the rough vs fairway, wet vs dry conditions, ball higher than your feet and ball lower than your feet, and long irons vs short irons but it was 7 minute video that covered pretty much every thing else. We all agree tempo is important, but the comment about "those who can't, teach" was entirely unnecessary and served no purpose in highlighting your point other than to make you feel better about yourself
Your video was a great help to me as a beginner to understand how to connect the club to the ball. One point that I noticed in the video but was not mentioned was the way you kept your left arm completely extended during the entire swing. I had been bending my elbow significantly on the backswing. This one change in my stroke improved my accuracy and distance enormously. It may be worth mentioning and demonstrating correct arm position throughout the stroke in a future video.
Good job Rick in making your instruction so simple to apply. I've been working on rotating around my spine on the backswing and I'm somewhat inconsistent where I end up topping the ball. I'm going to keep working on it until I get it perfectly. Thanks.
Rick, as someone returning to golf after 25 years and back then there was no real content to watch online, I've found your advice on the videos invaluable. It makes me realise that I really did not know what I was doing, one way or another! Although I wasn't a terrible golfer back then, at times it didn't look pretty!! Together with modern technology at the range and the precise nature that you use for instruction, I'm hoping to finally get out onto a course and play again. Thank you, keep doing it!!
Rick What I like with all your videos, is that they are perfectly illustrating the subject, the format is just perfect (short enough to have detailed explaining and not too long to get bored!), then you go straight to the point and stay focused!! Thanks so much ! Keep continuing
Just started watching your videos in the last month( I just started golfing again after a 20 year hiatus) absolutely some of the best content for new golfers. Easy to understand tips and pointers. Keep up the good work and thanks for helping the golfing community out.
Watch your vides but never comment but i must say, you are legitimately, changing my golf game as an amateur. I'm gaining enough confidence and enthusiasm enough so to want to invest in some custom clubs...my fitting with PXG is in a few weeks. Appreciate the guidance.
I don't think I could even put into words how helpful this video has been. All of the videos on this channel I'm addicted to but this one literally made me do a little dance on the tee today! Yesterday I had the worst round. Golf balls flying about everywhere. Not gonna lie, it felt shite. So I dialled in and watched this before I went out again today! That one point about moving your sternum past the ball on the downswing has fixed the reoccurring nightmare that is iron shots instantly! You are a legend Rick Sheils. Many thanks for putting out content that actually makes sense and is instantly noticeable.
I really, really want to thank you Rick. I picked up golfing 4 weeks ago and your tips have helped me enormously. I still only hit about 80-90 yards with my 7 iron but have gone from hitting 2-3/10 balls to +7/10. Need to work the hips more but all I can say is i'm hooked to both golf and your channel. Keep up the great work and positive spirit 👌.
Major props to the new editor... easily my favorite video of yours, just based on the quality of content and the added context brought in digitally. 👌🤘👍👍
Your series about how to swing a golf club changed my life and probably saved me a couple grand. I'm 38 and I've been golfing for 8 years with hand-me-down clubs. I had this idea to just go back to basics this spring instead of caving in to this nagging urge to get fitted and buy new clubs. Your videos identified about 4 or 5 things I was doing a little wrong. And in golf a little wrong can be a very bad shot. Anyways, just by focusing on the fundamentals you talked about in each video I was able to correct every part of my swing. It feels great to make good contact consistently and for the first time in my life I was even able to shape my shots. What I'm trying to say is THANK YOU
Just started playing golf on the range to practice. I came across your videos a few weeks ago and must say they are thoroughly detailed. I feel like they will really help me out going forward. Great job!
Another excellent video from the King of Golf Fun, Rick Shiels! Thanks Rick, for all your great instruction and tips and playing videos. You've been a tremendous help on my road back to playing golf.
Jist watched one believe Golfing Academy basic iron swing. Guy starts by using a mallet. I had to go to basics after a disaster with my irons yesterday. Watched this and went to a field. Made a big difference
You are one of the few on youtube that I can watch. Last week I crushed all but two drives to find myself missing the green in regulation. This week will be better....thanks Rick!
I really appreciate how simple you keep your tips. I’ve been able to take them to the range and course and see the positive results. On a side not I’m playing tomorrow and I’m gonna be well prepared to have a solid round. Yhanks
Went from shooting around 100 to finishing my round last week with an 82 from watching your videos...in less than a month!!! Amazing videos!! I've recommended them to all my golf buddies.
I saw your video on the distance of your driver club head from your body and your the video on the proper grip and it resolved issues I've had from the first time I picked up a club. Thank you!
Got sick and tired of hooking. I did these adjustments on my own and then confirmed with your video. Shot 79 with 11 pars and my drives looked like your shot tracker!! Thanks RS!! You are irreplaceable!!
Watched this before I went and played golf yesterday, trying to incorporate your instruction. What a drastic improvement in my iron strikes and my chips to the green. Think I only hit the ground behind the ball once or twice and was getting much more consistent loft than I usually got. Thanks so much! I am learning a lot from you!
Rick, this video helped me so much! I have been struggling this year. I was coming off the worst round of my life and had zero comfort swinging the club. Watched this video and worked on these techniques for an entire range session. I have never been more confident swinging the club, not just irons. This helped me fix my swing path by focusing on the rotation around the left leg. Keep up the great content!

rick you are the man. i watched this video this morning and went out onto the course and tried these things and shot my best round ever by 6 strokes! started playing again in January and just shot +4 back 9!

I PROMISE to CHRIST, I watched your video today before my 1st EVER tournament and out of pure frustration trying to “fix” myself!!! YOU FIXED WHAT I THOUGHT COULDN’T BE REPAIRED, I played the best golf I ever have today and placed 2nd in my first tournament EVER!!!!! Thank you sooo much
I wonder why I have never seen a youtube instruction regarding the end position of your body after hitting an iron shot - a local teacher stressed this as the most important action in hitting the ball straight: face your body towards the direction you hit the ball. Yo Rick. Watched your vid on sat. Did what you said in my round on Sunday. Hit most of them lovely. First time really striking down on the ball. And today Monday I got my first Eagle in my club. Thank you so much. From Vinny in Ireland
I hope this helps your golf!!!
Thanks Rick!
Yes it will
Thank you Rick

The feel. Mixed with the motion.
